Rio de Janeiro & surroundings

Sunbathing in Copacabana and Ipanema, being enchanted by the Samba schools, wandering in the streets of Rocinha (the biggest favela of Latin America), savouring the best caipirinhas, going island-hoping… Rio will enchant you!

After a fantastic holiday in the Rio de Janeiro region, I am sharing with you a couple of tips and nice places you should go to if you are as lucky as I was to travel in the Rio region.

Rio de Janeiro

Restaurants |

Zaza bistro – Ipanema, cute little bistro close to the beach with great food and fish

Aprazivel – Santa Teresa, amazing view from the restaurant located at the top of Santa Teresa, great food, expensive but at least worth for a drink

Bar dos Mineiros – Santa Teresa, Rua Pascoal Carlos Magno 99

Braseiro da Gavea – Gavea, great atmosphere and fantastic meat in this typical churrasquaria

Braseiros Galeto – Copacabana, Rua Domingos Ferreira 214, amazing little roasted chickens, very typical and simple

Apero / Afterwork in Curva in Urca, a great place to have a beer along the seashore at the sunset.

On top of the traditional sightseeing to be done in Rio, we were lucky to be able to go in a well-known favela outside of Rio, Rocinha. This was an amazing experience; we learned a lot about the favelas history and how they work. And, against all odds, favelas are not always dangerous. In the case of Rocinha, it was pacified a few years ago. Barbara, an italian charming lady and Giulio, her brasilian husband, live in the favela and will show you all its nooks. If you are interested in a private tour of the favela with one of its inhabitants, write me a comment and I’ll give you the contact…

Ilha Grande

We were staying at Pousada Casablanca, a simple and charming pink house in the heart of Abraao town

Best restaurant in Abraao is definitely Dom Mario, the best fish and shrimps we had during the whole trip…

We stayed at Pousada Bartholomeu, a really charming wooden house with restaurant and hotel located in the historical center of Paraty. A welcoming and tasteful hotel with only 4 rooms. Highly recommended!

We went to a fantastic restaurant for dinner, which was really a treat, but totally worth it! Banana da Terra, delicious brasilian fusion cuisine!

Our hotel in Buzios was outside of the village, with a fanstastic view on the ocean and direct access to the beach. A wonderful and peaceful stay at Hotel Villa Rasa Marina.
